LGBTQ+ Tarot Decks

The month of June is for Pride Awareness Month. If you missed my last blog I told My Coming Out Story and gave insight into the history of the LGBTQ+ community and how we got to modern day times. Continuing that story I wanted to share tarot decks that are LGBTQ+ friendly and offer readers options that may fit their lifestyle. Even if you don’t identify as being in the LGBTQ+ community I assume your here reading this because you have friends or family that are, or you want to live in a more inclusive world that is accepting of others. These tarot decks fit that narrative…

This Might Hurt Tarot

This is a deck I have in my collection and I love. I have done a full review of this deck already so if you want to read more feel free to click on the title above.

Created by Isabella Rotman “This Might Hurt Tarot is a modern deck in the Rider-Waite-Smith tradition. Keeping time-honored symbolism, but losing the medieval context, this deck is designed to be both easy to read and highly relatable. Clothing and scenery are modernized, diversity is embraced and queerness is lovingly acknowledged.

the Modern Witch Tarot

Another awesome deck in my collection, feel free to click the title above for the full review/walkthru of this deck…

Acclaimed illustrator Lisa Sterle marries the symbolism of the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith deck with youthful, stylish characters and items from our modern lives. With its diversity and all-female celebration of womanhood, this vibrant, fashion-forward, and colorful deck brings fun and fresh air to the tarot!

This deck is fun, it’s funky, it’s fresh and overall the quality of the packaging and the cards themselves is excellent. With it only being a $20 deck this not only makes it more accessible but is inclusive and inviting!

Star Spinner Tarot

Trungles (Trung Le Nguyen) is a Vietnamese American comic book artist and illustrator. His work explores diaspora stories, LGBTQ+ themes, and the role of fairy tales in the popular imagination.

Pictured left is just an example of the deck with 4 different versions of the Lovers Card.

“Enter a world where fairies play, mermaids yearn, and threads of the familiar and fantastic are spun together to guide you on your own personal journey. Featuring beloved indie comic artist Trungles’ enchanting illustrative style, the Star Spinner Tarot reinterprets classic tarot imagery for a more inclusive and diverse reflection of the modern world, with illustrations drawn from a wide range of stories, myths, and fairy tales.”

the Numinous Tarot

The Numinous Tarot is a deck that strives to bring a variety of experiences to the wonderfully complex symbolism of the Tarot. Rendered in beautiful and luminous watercolor and inks, the Numinous Tarot shows the beauty of diversity in the world, from body type, ability, race, to gender identity and expression. These things are not used as symbols in and of themselves; rather, they are there to show the infinite ways that all people can experience magic and mystery, especially those who are often excluded from it.

Next World Tarot

Featuring body outlaws, endangered cultures, and anti-colonial belief systems, THE NEXT WORLD TAROT envisions a world where justice relies on respect and revolutionary love. The Fool’s Journey is about smashing systematic oppression, owning their truths, being accountable to the people and places that support them, and taking back a connection to their body that may have been lost through trauma or societal brainwashing. The NEXT WORLD TAROT is a visual spectacle of both the battle cry and the re-connection between outcasts and their criminalized identities.

the Cosmic Tribe Tarot

Synthesizing classic archetypal imagery with state-of-the-art electronic wizardry, Stevee Postman has created a deck that maps the modern psyche like no other before. Drawing equally from nature, myth, psychedelics, and contemporary neopagan culture, The Cosmic Tribe Tarot sparks to the fears, hopes and desires of a new generation. Without abandoning the traditional structure that has made the Tarot a successful divination tool for centuries, Postman charges his deck with erotic, mystical energy, showing that the modern tribal movement is at the heart a spiritual one. Never before has a Tarot so boldly reconnected the contemporary soul to the eternal cosmos.

Gay Tarot

The Gay Tarot focuses on the experience and identity of homosexual men. The figures are pretty much all male, so some of the traditional cards have been renamed, but that makes no difference if you are used to Waite style, you should have not problem expanding your mind with this deck. Of course everyone has different tastes, but I just love these cards and highly recommend them. Also, if you are looking for an erotic deck, this is not the deck for you. While men are featured as all the major figures, women are not excluded.
